Description

23 year old Semillon vines, taken as cuttings from the oldest Semillon vineyards in the Hunter Valley.

A very different kind of Hunter Valley Semillon – less upfront citrus so typical of the region and variety. Here the palate is dominated by tropical notes and stone fruit. There is acidity, but it’s in balance and not overpowering. Lively, refreshing, and drinking really well as a youngster, like a lot of Hunter Valley semillon this still has ‘age me’ written all over it – as has many Glenguin Semillon vintages over the years.

A perfect wine that will match with anything from the sea with a shell on its’ back – think pan fried scallops, or simply oysters natural.

“Given the alcohol, the wine is softer, rounder and hence more accessible, than normal for young semillon… it will have its day in the sun.” 89 points, to 2021, 2018 James Halliday Wine Companion

“Mid palate has some flavour but it’s all about the fireworks on the finish. One thing is for sure: it doesn’t lack complexity.”, 91 points, to 2022, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
