Description
An interesting vintage for shiraz in the Hunter Valley, punctuated by early summer rains and late summer heat.
Only the very best bunches were picked in the vineyard and all of our efforts in the winery went into creating a single Shiraz from the 2016 vintage.
14 months in French oak (25% new), 20% whole bunches and natural yeasts form the backbone of the wine. Ruby colour with aromas of red and black, almost bramble, fruits and some cedar from the oak leading to a medium bodied wine where flavours of red cherry and blueberry dominate. Fine tannins and a lively mouthfeel complete the picture.
A more concentrated Stonybroke, perhaps, than those that have come before and the next five or so years will not be unkind.
